Air Pollution, Cardiovascular Disease | In utero and early life exposure to diesel exhaust air pollution increases adult susceptibility to heart failure in mice. Study concluding that exposure to diesel exhaust air pollution during in utero and early life development in mice increases adult susceptibility to heart failure, suggesting that the effects of air pollution on cardiovascular disease in human populations may be mediated via a “fetal origins of adult disease” pathway.

EDC Exposure via Cosmetics | A Survey of Phthalates and Parabens in Personal Care Products (PCPs) from the United States and Its Implications for Human Exposure. PCPs may be a significant source of infant exposure to parabens, with potential daily skin exposure to parabens by infants and toddlers as much as two to three times higher than that for adult women. The contribution of PCPs to phthalate exposure is low, except for DEP.

Pesticides, Neurotoxicity | EFSA assesses potential link between two neonicotinoids and developmental neurotoxicity. Two neonicotinoid insecticides – acetamiprid and imidacloprid – may affect the developing human nervous system, said the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Experts from the Authority propose that some guidance levels for acceptable exposure to the two neonicotinoids be lowered while further research is carried out to provide more reliable data on so-called developmental neurotoxicity (DNT). Flame Retardant Exposure via House Dust | Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) and “novel” brominated flame retardants in house dust in Germany. This study suggests that recent exposure to PBDEs and HBCD via house dust in Germany is well below the levels that are associated with health effects; however, for “novel” brominated flame retardants such an assessment is not possible due to limited toxicological information.
